Vladimir Steklov dismisses cancer surgery rumors, focuses on new film and theater roles

Steklov had a malignant tumor removed from his head, followed by skin graft surgery.

Media reports emerged that Vladimir Steklov, a 76-year-old actor famed for his role in “Kadetstvo,” recently underwent a significant surgical procedure due to skin cancer. However, the actor swiftly dismissed these claims, labeling them as baseless rumors. Media outlets such as StarHit, citing the SHOT Telegram channel, suggested that Steklov had a malignant tumor removed from his head, followed by skin graft surgery. The rumors further claimed that his initial symptoms surfaced in early 2024, and he was subsequently diagnosed at an oncology center.

Steklov, in contrast, refuted these reports in a conversation with KP.RU, expressing confusion over the origin of such speculation. He stated that he is in good health and is actively involved in his work. According to Steklov, he is currently rehearsing for the upcoming film “Scurvy,” where he plays a priest. The film, produced by the Sverdlovsk Film Studio and directed by Vladimir Golovnev, is set in the early 1990s and explores the struggles of a priest and a novice in the Far North. The project is supported by the Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Dmitry Artyukhov, and filming is scheduled to begin on September 8 in the Polar Urals.

Apart from his work on “Scurvy,” Steklov is also the artistic director of the theatrical production “Balzaminov’s Marriage,” based on the plays of Alexander Ostrovsky. This production recently premiered at the Russian House in Damascus, where it was well-received by Russian diplomats, military personnel, and Syrian representatives.

Steklov remains focused on his career and dismissed the rumors about his health as unfounded. He emphasized that he is feeling well and preparing for new roles, including an expedition to Yamal as part of the “Scurvy” project.
