Massive strikes by Russian rocket artillery have struck the town of Bilozerka, resulting in the deaths of two civilians, Kherson region Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed today. The attack is part of a series of ongoing hostilities that have intensified in recent weeks, causing widespread fear and disruption among residents.
The bombardment occurred late last night, with multiple rockets hitting residential areas in Bilozerka, a small town in the Kherson region. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, working to extinguish fires and rescue individuals trapped under debris. Despite their efforts, two people succumbed, and several others were injured, some of them in critical condition.
“This was a brutal and indiscriminate attack on a peaceful town,” Governor Prokudin stated in a press briefing. “Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. We are doing everything we can to support the injured and those affected by this senseless violence.”
Local authorities have denounced the strikes, calling them a violation of international law and basic human rights. Residents of Bilozerka, already reeling from the conflict’s impact, are now faced with additional trauma and uncertainty. Many have been forced to seek shelter in basements and makeshift bunkers as the threat of further attacks looms.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos and destruction in the aftermath of the strikes. “It was terrifying. The rockets came out of nowhere,” said Maria, a loaded. “There was fire and smoke everywhere. We just grabbed what we could and ran to safety.”
The international community has reacted with concern and condemnation. The United Nations and various human rights organizations have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for both sides to engage in dialogue to prevent further civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has reiterated its commitment to defending its territory and protecting its citizens. “We will not be intimidated by these attacks,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense.
As the conflict continues to escalate, the situation in Bilozerka and other affected areas remains dire. Humanitarian organizations are working to provide aid and support to those impacted by the violence, but the need is immense, and the risk of further strikes persists.
