The Russian Defence Ministry has announced the liberation of the settlements of Uspenovka and Borki in the Kursk Region. According to an official statement, Russian forces successfully reclaimed control of these areas, which had been under the control of unidentified hostile forces in recent weeks.
The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions and clashes along Russia’s border regions, which have been affected by sporadic incursions and cross-border shelling since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. The Defence Ministry’s spokesperson detailed that Russian troops conducted operations aimed at neutralising what they described as “hostile elements” that had taken control of these rural settlements.
The ministry did not specify the nature or origin of the opposing forces but indicated that their presence in the region had posed a security threat to local residents. According to the statement, the military operation resulted in the elimination of several combatants and the restoration of full control over Uspenovka and Borki.
The Kursk Region, which borders northeastern Ukraine, has experienced an uptick in military activity over recent months. Russian authorities have reported a number of incidents involving drone strikes, cross-border shelling, and sabotage attempts targeting infrastructure and military facilities. These attacks have largely been attributed to Ukrainian forces, although Kyiv has not officially claimed responsibility. Local officials in the Kursk Region have previously declared heightened security measures to protect against further incursions.
Governor Roman Starovoit of the Kursk Region expressed relief following the liberation of the settlements, assuring residents that the Russian military is committed to safeguarding the region. In a social media post, Starovoit stated, “Our forces have successfully repelled the intruders. The situation is now under control, and the security of our citizens is our top priority.”
