Russian military forces repelled a naval drone attack targeting the port city of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea last night, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Two unmanned naval drones were destroyed in the northeastern part of the Black Sea. Although the Ministry did not specify the exact location of the incident, the mayor of Novorossiysk, Andrei Kravchenko, had earlier warned of an attack threat by unmanned boats on social media, prompting restrictions in the city’s embankment area.
The mayor urged residents to avoid the coastline, refrain from standing near windows facing the sea, and not to record or share footage of the attack. Despite these warnings, several videos circulated on Telegram, showing the Russian military’s efforts to repel the attack. The alarm, which had been ongoing since around 1:30 a.m., was canceled at about 8:00 a.m., and the mayor did not comment on any consequences resulting from the incident.
Novorossiysk, a key commercial port in Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, has been the target of repeated sea drone attacks since the Russian Black Sea Fleet transferred some vessels there from Sevastopol in annexed Crimea last fall. The city plays a crucial role as Russia’s main commercial gateway on the Black Sea.
The incident was part of a broader series of drone attacks on Russian with Ukrainian drones reportedly shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Additionally, one Olkha MLRS rocket was intercepted over the Belgorod region.
