Russia calls India a key ‘like-minded’ partner in global security talks

Shoigu underlined the long-standing ties between Moscow and New Delhi, describing their relationship as one built on mutual trust, respect, and shared strategic interests.

Russia has reiterated its strong partnership with India, identifying the country as one of its most valued and “like-minded” allies. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors’ summit, where both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation on a range of global security challenges.

Shoigu underlined the long-standing ties between Moscow and New Delhi, describing their relationship as one built on mutual trust, respect, and shared strategic interests. He noted that this partnership has been consistently strengthened through high-level diplomatic engagement and regular dialogues between their political leaders. The two countries have a robust history of cooperation, particularly in areas like defence, energy, and counter-terrorism, and have consistently aligned on key international issues.

This meeting focused on expanding their strategic ties, addressing modern security challenges, and exploring joint initiatives in areas such as technological advancements, information security, and energy cooperation. Shoigu praised India’s role as a stabilising force in the international arena, particularly in the context of global security.

For his part, NSA Ajit Doval highlighted the shared values between India and Russia, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing emerging threats, including those related to cyber security and terrorism.

Doval underscored India’s commitment to continuing its strong partnership with Russia, particularly within the BRICS framework, which both nations see as an essential platform for promoting multipolarity and addressing global challenges through collective action. Russia’s reaffirmation of its strategic partnership with India comes as both countries navigate a rapidly evolving global geopolitical landscape.
