Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to Nicolas Maduro following his re-election as President of Venezuela. This victory represents a continuation of the strong strategic partnership between Moscow and Caracas, underscoring the depth of their political and economic relations.

In a statement shared on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel, Putin highlighted the nature of the Russian-Venezuelan alliance as a strategic partnership. He expressed confidence that Maduro’s leadership would further advance the development of this bilateral relationship. “Russian-Venezuelan relations have the nature of a strategic partnership. I am confident that your activity as head of state will continue to contribute to their progressive development on all tracks,” Putin remarked. He emphasized that this continued cooperation aligns with the interests of both nations’ “friendly peoples” and supports the creation of a “more fair and democratic world order.”

Nicolas Maduro, the incumbent president, secured his third six-year term in the presidential election held on Sunday. The victory was confirmed by Elvis Amoroso, President of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, who announced that Maduro received 5,150,092 votes, or 51.2% of the total. This electoral success reinforces Maduro’s position amidst a backdrop of domestic and international challenges.

Following the election, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov conveyed his optimism about the future of Russian-Venezuelan relations. Speaking to TASS, Melik-Bagdasarov noted that Maduro’s re-election would bolster the strategic partnership between the two countries. He emphasized that this victory is pivotal in solidifying the longstanding ties that have been nurtured over the years.

Maduro’s re-election is poised to have significant repercussions for both domestic and international politics, particularly in terms of Venezuela’s relationship with global powers like Russia. Moscow’s support is crucial for Caracas, especially given the country’s ongoing economic and political difficulties.
