Kyiv under missile attack: residents face terror as air defence systems repel Russian strike

According to the Ukraine Air Force, during Wednesday’s morning rush hour, Russia launched a missile strike against Kyiv and many other Ukrainian cities. Hearing deafening explosions around the capital, the attack activated Kyiv’s air defence systems.

Residents of Kyiv experienced terror and chaos when the first explosions rang just before 7 a.m. (0500 GMT). The attack was repelled by air defence systems, as revealed by Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, via the messaging app Telegram. It’s still unknown as of the time of publishing whether the attack has caused any serious damage or casualties.

Around six in the morning, the Ukrainian Air Force warned on Telegram of the approaching threat of a Russian missile attack, putting the entire nation under an air raid alert. People are asked to exercise caution since the situation is changing quickly.

The governor of the Kharkiv area in northeastern Ukraine, Oleh Sinehubov, announced that non-residential infrastructure in Kharkiv city, the territory’s administrative hub, was the target of Russian missiles. It is unknown how much damage has occurred or if there have been any fatalities in Kharkiv.
