In a series of statements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov shed light on various pressing issues, including the new high-ranking position for Sergei Shoigu, the nervousness surrounding the situation in Ukraine, and Russia’s stance on cybersecurity accusations.
Regarding Shoigu’s new role, Peskov confirmed that the former defence minister is moving to a “very high-ranking post with a broad scope of tasks.” He emphasized the importance of this position, stating that it is “of great importance for the whole country.” However, Peskov did not provide further details about the specifics of Shoigu’s new responsibilities.
On the topic of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Ukraine, Peskov acknowledged Russia’s awareness of the trip, stating, “We are aware of Blinken’s visit to Ukraine, just as we are aware of nervousness in Ukraine, Europe, and the US about the situation in the special operation zone.” This statement reflects the Kremlin’s recognition of the heightened tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Peskov also addressed the cybersecurity allegations levelled against Russia by European nations. He firmly rejected these accusations, stating, “Every single European accusation against Russia regarding cyberattacks is groundless, and Russia firmly rejects them.” This statement reiterates Russia’s longstanding denial of involvement in cyber warfare activities.
Turning to the internal affairs of Georgia, Peskov emphasized Russia’s non-interference policy, saying, “What is happening in Georgia is the country’s internal affair, and Russia has no intention of interfering.” This statement aligns with the Kremlin’s stance on respecting the sovereignty of other nations.
Peskov’s comments provide insights into the Kremlin’s position on various critical issues, ranging from personnel changes and diplomatic visits to cybersecurity allegations and regional affairs. His statements underscore Russia’s determination to assert its stance on these matters while maintaining a cautious approach to avoiding direct interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
As tensions continue to escalate in various regions, Peskov’s remarks serve as a reminder of the delicate diplomatic balancing act Russia must navigate as it pursues its interests on the global stage.
