Drone attack sparks fires in Ramenskoye, Moscow region

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that air defense operations were underway when a fire broke out, but he emphasized that the UAVs had been intercepted before causing further damage.

High-rise buildings in Ramenskoye, near Moscow, caught fire after a series of drone attacks early Tuesday, September 10. Russian Telegram channels circulated videos showing multiple residential buildings ablaze, with reports of significant damage and casualties. Local authorities stated that Russian air defense systems had engaged incoming drones, but some struck residential areas, resulting in widespread destruction.

Reports suggest that drones allegedly targeted three residential high-rises, sparking fires that engulfed the 11th and 12th floors of a building. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that air defense operations were underway when a fire broke out, but he emphasized that the UAVs had been intercepted before causing further damage. Contrarily, the Russian Telegram channel Mash claimed that a drone directly hit the 11th floor of one of the high-rises around 04:30, leading to the blaze that spread to the 12th floor.

Accounts from the scene indicate that at least three floors and 20 apartments were damaged. Initial reports stated that a 9-year-old child had died in the attack, though this information was later refuted by Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov. The governor did confirm the death of a 46-year-old woman and three injuries linked to the incident. A subsequent drone strike reportedly occurred around 05:00, hitting another high-rise in a different part of Ramenskoye. This attack damaged an apartment on the ninth floor, with at least one casualty reported.

Visuals released by the ASTRA Telegram channel showed a third high-rise affected by the strikes. By 06:00, firefighters had managed to extinguish the blazes in all impacted buildings. Russian authorities have accused the Ukrainian Defense Forces of orchestrating the attack, while reports indicate that at least 15 UAVs were shot down by Russian air defenses overnight as they approached Moscow.
