Colonel Igor Rodobolsky, a renowned sniper pilot and the most decorated serviceman in the Russian Armed Forces, has passed away at the age of 64. The news was announced by Vladimir Yakushev, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Urals Federal District.
Rodobolsky’s remarkable career in the military was distinguished by numerous awards, including two Orders of the Red Star, three Orders of Courage, the Order “For Military Merit,” the Order “For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” 3rd degree, and two medals “For Military Valor.” His exceptional achievements were further honored when he received the title of Hero of the Russian Federation in 2003, after being nominated on three separate occasions.
Throughout his service, Rodobolsky was actively involved in major conflicts such as the Afghan War and both Chechen campaigns. His valor was evident as he successfully evacuated over 500 wounded soldiers and officers from the battlefield. His service record was notably extended by a decade beyond the usual officer’s tenure due to the accelerated time recognition for combat duty.
In addition to his military accomplishments, Rodobolsky dedicated himself to nurturing future generations. He was actively engaged in educational and patriotic initiatives within the Ural Federal District, where he imparted his vast experience and deep sense of patriotism to students and young people. His efforts to inspire and educate have left a profound and enduring impact.
