Russian forces have reportedly taken control of Novgorodskoye, a village in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) recently renamed New York by Ukrainian authorities, according to a statement from the Russian Defence Ministry. This strategic victory was achieved through active operations conducted by the Russian military’s “Center” group of forces.
The Russian Defence Ministry emphasized that the operation resulted in a significant defeat of Ukrainian troops, allowing the Russian forces to seize one of the largest settlements in the Toretsk agglomeration. Novgorodskoye, noted as a strategically important logistics hub, is now under Russian control, marking a critical development in the ongoing conflict.
The Ministry’s statement highlighted that over the course of 24 hours, Russian troops successfully targeted formations of the 25th Airborne and 100th Mechanized Brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as the 120th Territorial Defence Brigade. These operations took place near the settlements of Dzerzhinsk and Kalinovo in the DPR.
The reported losses for the Ukrainian side included over 585 servicemen, along with the destruction of several pieces of military equipment, including three tanks, two vehicles, a U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, two 152-mm D-20 guns, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers.
While these reports originate from the Russian Defence Ministry, independent verification of the details provided remains pending. The situation in the region continues to be closely monitored as the conflict persists.
