A drone headed toward Moscow was intercepted and shot down by air defence forces in the early hours of Wednesday, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was destroyed over the city of Podolsk, located in the Moscow region. Sobyanin confirmed this incident via his Telegram channel, citing the Ministry of Defense as the source of the information.

Eyewitnesses from the Klimovsk microdistrict, a residential area in Podolsk, reported to local media hearing two loud explosions around 2:50 a.m., followed by car alarms blaring and windows rattling. Approximately 20 minutes later, they heard several more powerful detonations, believed to be the result of additional UAVs being intercepted.

The mayor later provided an update, noting that two more enemy drones had been shot down over the Moscow region. As of the latest reports, there were no casualties or property damage resulting from these incidents.

The Russian media outlet, Shot, corroborated these accounts, referencing local residents who recounted their experiences during the drone attacks. The Ministry of Defense has yet to release further details about the origin or intended target of the UAVs.

The incident underscores the heightened state of alert in Moscow and surrounding areas, as tensions remain high amid ongoing regional conflicts. The quick response by air defense forces prevented any potential harm to the capital, a recurring target for such attacks.

This is the latest in a series of drone-related incidents reported in the Moscow region, with authorities consistently emphasizing the effectiveness of the city’s air defense systems. Sobyanin’s updates and the eyewitness reports highlight the growing frequency of these threats and the ongoing vigilance required to protect the capital and its residents.
