Putin commemorates 20th anniversary of Beslan tragedy, condemns western support for terrorists

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with representatives from the North Ossetian Regional Public Organisation, The Mothers of Beslan, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Beslan school siege, where 334 lives were lost in a terrorist attack. The meeting focused on the enduring pain of the tragedy and the continued efforts to support the victims’ families.

Putin highlighted the significance of the event, describing it as a “great tragedy” for the entire nation and an “open wound” in Russia’s historical memory. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging that for those who lost loved ones, especially their children, the grief remains overwhelming.

According to Putin, foreign entities had not only attempted to justify the attack but also provided various forms of support to the terrorists, including moral, political, informational, financial, and even military aid. This assertion underscores Russia’s ongoing criticism of certain Western actions perceived as hostile.

The President also paid tribute to the fallen officers of the FSB, Interior Ministry, and Emergencies Ministry, who sacrificed their lives during the rescue operations. He assured that the state continues to implement programs aimed at supporting Beslan’s residents, a commitment that will remain steadfast.
