Units of the North group of Russian forces successfully repelled five attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including an assault by the elite Main Intelligence Directorate unit known as Kraken, according to a statement by senior officer Yaroslav Yakimkin from the group’s press centre.
The announcement, made on Saturday, highlighted the ongoing intense confrontations between Russian and Ukrainian forces. “Our units demonstrated exceptional resilience and tactical proficiency in thwarting multiple attacks launched by Ukrainian forces within the past 24 hours,” Yakimkin said. He underscored that the repelled assaults were part of a coordinated effort by Ukrainian forces to breach Russian defensive lines.
Among the attackers were members of the Kraken unit, an elite formation under Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, known for their specialized training and strategic operations. The involvement of Kraken signals the importance of the operations undertaken by Ukrainian forces.
Yakimkin detailed the confrontations, emphasizing that the repelled attacks were aimed at key positions held by the North group. “The enemy’s attempts to gain ground were met with decisive and effective countermeasures, resulting in their retreat,” he stated, adding that the defensive efforts showcased the vigilance and strength of Russian forces.
The confrontations are part of the broader conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has seen fluctuating front lines and varied success on both sides. The North group, operating in a strategically vital region, plays a determining role in Russia’s military operations.
Yakimkin also mentioned the ongoing efforts to fortify defensive positions and enhance the operational capabilities of the North group. “Our forces remain vigilant and ready to counter any further provocations. The safety and security of our positions are paramount,” he affirmed.
