In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former footballer and current pundit Carlton Palmer spoke about Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk’s possible return from injury. The Dutch defender has been out of action since October 17 due to a cruciate knee ligament damage that he suffered against Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Arguably Liverpool’s and probably the Premier League’s best defender, Van Dijk has been a major miss for the current champions.

Palmer spoke about Van Dijk returning to action in a few months. He said, “From what I’m seeing from him, he’s on the bike now and he’s started to jog a bit,”

“If he’s into straight-line running, you would think in the next month to two months (he could be back) – he’s an exceptional athlete and a consummate pro.”

Palmer also mentioned that Alan Shearer had the same injury and the striker returned earlier than expected as well.

“If you look, in the past at Alan Shearer having a cruciate [injury], I think Shearer was back in record time because he looks after himself and keeps himself fit, players like that do recover quicker from injury.”
