Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited on April 21 informed stock exchanges that a fire incident occurred at the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) facility, but said the impact on operations and financials is not expected to be material.

According to the company’s filing, the incident took place on April 20, 2026, in the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) section of the refinery. The fire was reportedly caused due to leakage of hydrocarbons from one of the valves or flanges in the heat exchanger circuit.

HPCL said the fire was contained within the heat exchangers stack and that the CDU, Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU), and other units were quickly isolated. The company clarified that all units are structurally safe and no other section of the refinery has been affected.

The fire was brought under control promptly by the emergency response team at HRRL, with the company confirming that there was no loss of life or injury to personnel.

As a precautionary measure, HPCL also stated that the scheduled dedication of the refinery by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on April 21, 2026 has been postponed. A revised date for the inauguration will be announced in due course.

The company has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and is undertaking necessary remedial measures. HPCL added that the financial and operational impact, if any, is currently being assessed but prima facie is not expected to be material.
