Indian energy sector stocks were broadly higher in morning trade on April 21, 2026, with the S&P BSE Energy index quoting at 11,670.57, up 0.43%, as per BSE data captured at 10:48 AM. The broader S&P BSE Sensex was up 0.73% at 79,092.09, and the Nifty 50 gained 0.73% to trade at 24,542.35.


Top Gainers in the Energy Sector

INOX Green Energy was the standout performer of the session, rising 4.94% on BSE (Rs 169.00) and 4.95% on NSE (Rs 168.93).

GAIL (India) advanced 2.63% on BSE to Rs 161.85, and 2.50% on NSE to Rs 161.64, making it one of the stronger large-cap movers in the segment.

MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals) gained 2.06% on BSE (Rs 183.70) and 2.09% on NSE (Rs 183.76).

Gujarat State Petronet rose 1.94% on BSE (Rs 280.45) and 2.00% on NSE (Rs 280.53).

Gulf Oil Lubricants was up 1.84% on BSE at Rs 982.15 and 1.76% on NSE at Rs 981.00.

Deep Industries climbed 1.72% on both exchanges — Rs 485.90 on BSE and Rs 485.00 on NSE.

Confidence Petroleum rose 2.49% on BSE to Rs 56.73 (not listed on NSE).

Indraprastha Gas gained 1.53% on BSE (Rs 168.90) and 1.37% on NSE (Rs 168.67).

Mahanagar Gas added 1.11% on both BSE (Rs 1,150.65) and NSE (Rs 1,150.80).

HPCL rose 1.11% on BSE to Rs 383.40 and 0.83% on NSE to Rs 382.65.

Petronet LNG gained 1.40% on BSE (Rs 275.85) and 1.28% on NSE (Rs 275.62).

Suzlon Energy was up 1.11% on BSE (Rs 53.06) and 1.07% on NSE (Rs 53.06).

Chennai Petroleum advanced 0.94% on BSE (Rs 1,017.55) and 1.05% on NSE (Rs 1,018.15).

Bharat Coking Coal rose 0.84% on BSE (Rs 36.15) and 0.89% on NSE (Rs 36.16).

Veedol Corporation gained 0.91% on BSE (Rs 1,438.00) and 0.79% on NSE (Rs 1,434.40).

K.P. Energy added 1.02% on BSE to Rs 351.25 (not listed on NSE).

BPCL edged up 0.52% on BSE (Rs 317.65) and 0.35% on NSE (Rs 317.15).

Linde India gained 0.51% on BSE (Rs 7,090.85) and 0.22% on NSE (Rs 7,080.50).

IOC rose 0.41% on BSE (Rs 147.60) and 0.48% on NSE (Rs 147.58).

Castrol India added a modest 0.27% on BSE (Rs 182.70) and 0.30% on NSE (Rs 182.72).

Hindustan Oil Exploration was up a marginal 0.16% on BSE (Rs 152.90) and 0.48% on NSE (Rs 152.99).

ONGC was nearly flat, up just 0.05% on BSE (Rs 283.50) and 0.12% on NSE (Rs 283.70).


Stocks in the Red

Not all energy counters participated in the rally. Four stocks declined in morning trade:

  • Gujarat Gas Company fell 2.11% on BSE (Rs 745.60) and 2.28% on NSE (Rs 743.10) — the steepest decliner in the sector.
  • Selan Exploration dropped 2.08% on BSE (Rs 598.15) and 2.50% on NSE (Rs 597.00).
  • Oil India slipped 0.58% on BSE (Rs 468.60) and 0.65% on NSE (Rs 468.65).
  • Reliance Industries was nearly unchanged, down a marginal 0.08% on BSE (Rs 1,361.50) while essentially flat on NSE at Rs 1,363.50 (+0.01%).
