Benchmark indices were trading in the red during midday deals on April 16, with the Nifty 50 down 0.29% at 24,160.70 and the BSE Sensex slipping 0.33% to 77,853.78. Despite the broader weakness, several index heavyweights recorded gains.
Hindalco Industries emerged as the top gainer, rising 3.5% to ₹1,047.2.
Trent was up 1.5% at ₹4,037.2, while Adani Enterprises gained 1.1% to trade at ₹2,168.9. Bharat Electronics also advanced 1.1% to ₹452.5.
Larsen & Toubro moved higher by 0.9% to ₹4,114.8.
Among other gainers, Eternal rose 0.7% to ₹248.3, while Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone climbed 0.7% to ₹1,522. Asian Paints also added 0.7% to ₹2,439.1.
Infosys traded 0.6% higher at ₹1,312.9, and Tata Steel gained 0.5% to ₹209.8.
