Frequent highway travellers who use the FASTag Annual Pass to avoid paying toll at every plaza have one small but immediate cost change to note before April 1, 2026. The National Highways Authority of India is increasing the FASTag Annual Pass fee from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075 for financial year 2026-27, effective April 1. The increase of ₹75 applies to the annual pass product for eligible non-commercial vehicles.
What Is the FASTag Annual Pass
The FASTag Annual Pass is a product offered by NHAI that allows eligible non-commercial vehicle owners to pay a single flat annual fee instead of individual toll charges every time they pass through a national highway toll plaza. For regular highway commuters, daily office-goers who live in areas where national highways form part of their daily route, or frequent travellers between specific cities served by national highways, the annual pass can represent significant savings over paying per-trip tolls throughout the year.
The pass is linked to the vehicle’s FASTag and allows unlimited toll crossings on national highways covered under the scheme for the duration of the financial year. Each time the vehicle passes through a covered toll plaza, the FASTag reader recognises the annual pass and allows free passage without deducting from the wallet balance.
The New Rate From April 1
The annual pass fee for FY 2026-27 is ₹3,075, up from ₹3,000 in the current financial year. The increase of ₹75 represents a 2.5 percent rise, broadly in line with routine annual cost adjustments that NHAI makes to its toll-related products at the start of each financial year. The new rate takes effect from April 1, 2026 for renewals and fresh purchases of the annual pass in FY 2026-27.
Vehicle owners whose current annual pass expires on March 31, 2026 and who wish to renew for FY 2026-27 will pay ₹3,075 at the time of renewal. Those purchasing the pass for the first time from April 1 will also pay the new ₹3,075 rate.
Is the Annual Pass Still Worth It
At ₹3,075 for an entire financial year of unlimited national highway toll crossings, the annual pass continues to offer substantial value for regular highway users. The break-even calculation is straightforward. If your vehicle’s standard toll on the national highway route you use most frequently is ₹75 per crossing, you recover the full annual pass cost in just 41 crossings in the year. For a commuter making that crossing five days a week, the pass pays for itself in approximately eight weeks and provides free travel for the remaining ten and a half months of the year.
For less frequent travellers, the calculation depends on your specific route and how many highway crossings you make in a typical month. Vehicles that cross national highway toll plazas more than three to four times a month on routes with tolls of ₹100 or more will generally find the annual pass cost-effective even at the new ₹3,075 rate.
How to Renew or Purchase
The FASTag Annual Pass can be renewed or purchased through the NHAI website, the My FASTag app, and through participating banks and FASTag issuers. Vehicle owners approaching the March 31 expiry of their current pass should renew at the new ₹3,075 rate from April 1 or before if NHAI opens renewal windows ahead of the financial year change.
Ensure your FASTag wallet has sufficient balance to cover the ₹3,075 annual pass purchase if you are renewing through the automatic debit route, or top up your wallet before initiating the renewal transaction.
The ₹75 increase is modest and should not deter regular highway users from continuing with the annual pass, which remains one of the most straightforward ways to reduce the cumulative toll burden for frequent national highway travellers in India.
