Indian equity benchmarks were trading sharply lower in midday deals on March 9, with heavy selling across sectors dragging the indices down. The Nifty 50 was trading at 23,859.70, down 590.75 points (2.42%), while the Sensex declined 1,896.07 points (2.40%) to 77,022.83. The Bank Nifty slipped 2,091.20 points (3.62%) to 55,692.05, and the Nifty Midcap Select index fell 319.80 points (2.43%) to 12,847.10.
Despite the broad market weakness, a few stocks in the Nifty 50 managed to stay in positive territory during midday trading.
Wipro was among the gainers, trading at Rs 196.4, up 0.5%.
HCL Technologies also edged higher, trading at Rs 1,357.5, up 0.1%.
