RITES Limited, a leading transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. The agreement establishes a structured framework for collaboration aimed at supporting SAIL’s steel plants and mining operations through specialised railway services.

Under the MoU, RITES will provide comprehensive railway solutions to SAIL, including wet leasing of locomotives and higher schedule maintenance of SAIL-owned diesel-electric locomotives. The scope of work also covers operation and maintenance (O&M) support, leveraging RITES’ long-standing expertise in railway operations and asset management.

The partnership is focused on improving efficiency, reliability, and safety across SAIL’s in-house railway systems, which play a critical role in the movement of raw materials and finished steel. By outsourcing specialised railway functions to RITES, SAIL is expected to optimise logistics performance while maintaining sharper focus on its core steel production activities.
