Coal India reported a provisional coal production of 79.8 million tonnes (MT) in January 2026, marking a 2.6% year-on-year increase compared with 77.8 MT produced in the same month last year, according to a regulatory filing issued on February 1, 2026.
For the April 2025 to January 2026 period, Coal India’s cumulative coal production stood at 609.0 MT, marginally lower than 621.1 MT recorded in the corresponding period last year, reflecting a 2% year-on-year decline.
Among subsidiaries, South Eastern Coalfields posted strong performance with 19.7 MT production in January, up 13.4% YoY, while Mahanadi Coalfields produced 22.4 MT, registering a 1.3% increase. Northern Coalfields remained flat year-on-year at 12.3 MT. However, Bharat Coking Coal and Western Coalfields reported declines of 18.3% and 4.9%, respectively, during the month.
On the offtake front, Coal India recorded 66.3 MT in January 2026, down 4.7% YoY, while cumulative offtake for April–January stood at 612.1 MT, lower by 3% compared with the previous year.
