Lizelle Lee has been fined 10% of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the Women’s Premier League Code of Conduct during Delhi Capitals’ match against Mumbai Indians at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.
What happened
The incident took place in the 11th over of Delhi Capitals’ innings, when Lee was adjudged stumped off Amanjot Kaur after an extended on-field and third-umpire review. The delivery, bowled down the leg side, saw Lee lose balance while attempting a flick. Wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous completed the stumping.
After checking multiple angles, including the stump camera, the third umpire ruled that Lee’s bat was in the air at the moment the bails were dislodged.
Reason for the fine
Lee, who was batting well on 46 off 28 balls, showed visible dissent and continued to remonstrate as she left the field. According to the WPL media advisory, she admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment during a match.
For Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding, meaning no formal appeal process applies.
The incident briefly overshadowed an otherwise competitive contest between Delhi Capitals Women and Mumbai Indians Women in the ongoing Women’s Premier League season.
