Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has openly admitted that the club need to reinforce their defensive line, adding fresh fuel to speculation surrounding the Blaugrana’s January transfer plans.

Speaking in his latest press conference, Flick made it clear that strengthening the backline remains a priority, although he also acknowledged the difficulties of doing business during the winter window. His comments were later shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on social media.

“When I look at the defensive line, I think we need one more player there,” Flick said. “We’ll have to wait and see, it has to be something that makes sense, it’s not easy in January.”

Barcelona’s defensive depth has been tested throughout the season due to injuries, suspensions, and a demanding fixture schedule across La Liga and Europe. While the club have relied on a mix of experienced players and youngsters, Flick’s remarks suggest that the current options may not be sufficient for the challenges ahead.
