Shares of Eternal came under pressure in early trade on Tuesday after reports emerged that Vipin Kapooria, Chief Financial Officer of Blinkit, has resigned just about a year after taking charge of the role. According to people familiar with the matter, as cited by Moneycontrol, Kapooria is expected to return to his former employer, Flipkart. At around 9:22 AM IST, Eternal shares were trading 1.59% lower at ₹278.35.
Kapooria had joined Blinkit around September–October 2024, becoming the first full-time CFO at the quick commerce platform since Amit Sachdeva’s exit in 2022. His appointment came at a crucial juncture for the company, shortly after Eternal raised ₹8,500 crore (approximately $1 billion) through a qualified institutional placement. At the time, the company had positioned Blinkit as its primary growth engine, banking on aggressive expansion in India’s fast-growing quick commerce segment.
During his tenure, Kapooria was seen as a key part of the leadership team tasked with managing Blinkit’s rapid scale-up, improving unit economics, and supporting long-term profitability goals. His reported departure within a year has raised questions among investors about continuity at the top, especially as competition in quick commerce continues to intensify.
Kapooria’s anticipated return to Flipkart would mark his third stint with the e-commerce major, which is owned by Walmart. He previously worked at Flipkart between 2015 and 2018, and again from August 2020 to October 2024, spending more than seven years in total with the company. The move is considered strategically significant, particularly as Flipkart is reportedly gearing up for a long-awaited initial public offering, expected around 2026.
As of now, neither Eternal nor Flipkart has issued an official statement confirming Kapooria’s resignation or his reported return.
