Larsen & Toubro has secured a major engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd for a landmark petrochemical project at Bina in Madhya Pradesh. As per L&T’s internal project classification, the contract is valued worth between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, placing it in the ‘Major’ project category.

The order has been awarded to L&T’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business vertical and will be executed on a lump sum turnkey basis. The scope of work includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and High-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE/HDPE) Swing Unit consisting of two trains with a capacity of 575 KTPA each. Once completed, the facility will become India’s largest LLDPE/HDPE Swing Unit, setting a new benchmark for polyethylene production capacity in the country.

The project forms a critical part of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project, which aims to establish an integrated petrochemical complex while expanding refinery capacity from 7.8 million metric tonnes per annum to around 11 MMTPA. The expansion is expected to significantly enhance BPCL’s downstream value chain and strengthen India’s polymer manufacturing ecosystem.

This major investment also aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision by promoting domestic manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports for key polymer products. The additional polyethylene capacity is likely to support growth across multiple downstream sectors, including packaging, infrastructure, automotive and consumer goods.
