Shubman Gill is not part of India’s playing XI for the IND vs SA 5th T20I due to a toe injury.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed at the toss that Gill picked up a toe niggle during the Lucknow game, following which the team management decided not to risk him for the series decider. As a precautionary measure, Gill has been rested, and Sanju Samson has come into the playing XI as his replacement.

With the World Cup in focus and a packed international schedule ahead, the decision appears to be driven by workload management and injury prevention rather than form-related concerns.

Gill’s absence prompted a reshuffle at the top, while India also brought back Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar as part of the team’s tactical changes for the final T20I.

Gill’s availability for upcoming fixtures will depend on how his toe injury responds to rest and treatment.
