Real Madrid have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the officiating during their recent La Liga match against Celta Vigo, with the club reportedly “outraged” by several key decisions that they believe unfairly influenced the game. The tension stems mainly from an incident involving an elbow from Celta striker Borja Iglesias on a Madrid player, which left the midfielder bleeding visibly during the first half.
According to reports from Diario AS, Real Madrid are particularly unhappy that the challenge was not reviewed by VAR despite its severity. Club sources claim the lack of intervention is “incomprehensible,” especially given the clear physical impact the incident had on the player involved. Madrid officials are said to be questioning how such an action, one that resulted in a noticeable facial injury, did not warrant at least a closer look from the video assistant referee.
The frustration within the club has been amplified by comparisons to previous refereeing decisions in La Liga. Madrid reportedly pointed to the red card shown to Espanyol’s Leandro Cabrera for a challenge on Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal earlier this season.
