After recording a five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Kieron Pollard said Suryakumar Yadav would be disappointed for not being selected for the Indian team squad that will tour Australia next month.
Mumbai Indians (MI) beat down a total of 165 runs with five wickets in hand and remaining five balls. Suryakumar Yadav played an unbeaten strike of 79 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to take his team over the line. With this win, Mumbai Indians (MI) are standing at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 points table.
Suryakumar Yadav is one of the most consistent players of IPL for Mumbai Indians (MI) since returning to the franchise ahead of the 2018 season. He was the most expensive uncapped player in the 2018 IPL auction. Suryakumar’s domestic performance was also noteworthy.
Suryakumar’s exclusion from team India’s squad had to face Many criticism many current players as well as former players including Harbhajan Singh, Dilip Vengsarkar, Manoj Tiwari questioned the decision and called out the selectors to give Suryakumar Yadav a chance in the national team.
“We lost a few wickets but Surya took us home. Imagine, someone, coming in at that number and batting at that strike rate despite a wicket going down. The most he can do is continue performing for us. As an individual, if you continue to be consistent, the rewards will come,” Pollard told host-broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.
“I have always done what the team wants me to do. If the team performs well, I am happy. Deep down inside he (Surya) must be very very disappointed to not have donned the blue for India. He just keeps getting better. Again, as an individual if you keep staying consistent, you will be rewarded. Nothing happens before its time. There is discussion around my batting position, I would love to be up there, taking the runs and hitting the runs, but we have to do what is the best for the team.” added Pollard.
“I am big on match-ups in a way. I also watch a lot of cricket. I took a punt and bowled at AB. I could have waited for the last over but if someone has to go for runs, I thought I’d take it. Bumrah continues to keep standing up throughout the tournament. But again, we have been playing total team cricket. Somebody is always there to pick up the slack.” said Kieron Pollard.
Mumbai Indians (MI) will next take on Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, 31st October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
