The Abu Dhabi title decider has taken a dramatic turn as Yuki Tsunoda’s team radio — and a close on-track exchange with championship leader Lando Norris — has been officially noted by the FIA.

Before the heated moment, Tsunoda delivered a sharp message to his engineer:

“I know what to do, so leave it to me.”

The clash with Norris moments later has now drawn the attention of race control, adding another layer of tension to a finale already bursting with title pressure.

This investigation could have massive championship implications, depending on whether Norris is judged to have been impeded or forced off-line during a critical phase of the race.

The 2025 championship showdown explodes into action

The 2025 Formula 1 championship showdown in Abu Dhabi is unfolding with high tension, dramatic pace swings and enormous title implications. With three drivers still in contention — Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri — every lap at Yas Marina is shaping the destiny of this season’s world champion.

Verstappen builds early control

Lap 9/58: Max Verstappen has made a blistering start to the finale. The Red Bull driver immediately set the fastest lap and opened up a two-second cushion over Oscar Piastri. Red Bull have already asked him to manage his tyres, hinting at a long first stint to counter any undercut attempts.

The Dutchman must win and hope Norris finishes fourth or lower to claim a fifth consecutive world title.

Norris fends off heavy pressure from Leclerc

Lap 13/58: Lando Norris’ title hopes came under immediate threat as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc attacked relentlessly in the opening laps. Norris, however, defended brilliantly and has now pulled more than a second clear.

Both are running mediums, but Leclerc’s early aggression appears to have cost him tyre life.

As of Lap 13, Norris would be World Champion if he finishes 3rd.

Russell triggers pit-stop phase

Lap 14/58: Mercedes’ George Russell became the first major name to pit, kicking off the strategic battle. With the undercut proving powerful at Yas Marina, Mercedes clearly wants to jump the McLarens or Ferraris through timing and fresh rubber.

This move forces Norris and Leclerc to make a tight call between tyre conservation and track position.

Championship permutations

  • Norris wins the title by finishing 3rd or higher

  • Verstappen wins if he is 1st and Norris finishes 4th or lower

  • Piastri needs to finish 1st or 2nd AND both Norris and Verstappen must finish off the podium
