Australia produced a gritty lower-order fightback on Day 3 at the Gabba, powered by a superb rearguard stand from Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland, which helped the hosts extend their dominance in the second Ashes Test.

Resuming the innings under pressure, Australia’s tail turned into a wall of resistance. Starc and Boland stitched together a crucial 75-run partnership for the 9th wicket, occupying the crease for 27.2 overs — the longest stand of the series so far. England rotated their bowlers relentlessly, threw every trick in the book, but the pair remained defiant until Starc eventually fell to Brydon Carse for 65.

Boland carried on to contribute another 20 runs with last-man Doggett, pushing Australia to a strong 511 all out in 117.3 overs, giving them a commanding 177-run lead.

It was a session that tested England’s bowlers and patience, while showcasing Australia’s remarkable depth and determination.
