IndiGo’s operational crisis deepened on Friday, December 5, as the airline cancelled all flight operations at Mumbai Airport until 6 PM today, marking the latest escalation in a disruption that has now stretched into its fourth consecutive day.

The move comes on the back of widespread cancellations across major airports, with the airline struggling to stabilise operations due to crew shortages and scheduling inefficiencies.

Earlier today, all IndiGo flight departures from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were cancelled till 3 PM, adding further strain to passengers already facing delays since the start of the week. Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport also reported at least 102 cancellations this morning alone.

This follows IndiGo’s communication to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday, stating that it will curtail flights from December 8 to reduce ongoing disruption. The airline also warned that delays and cancellations will continue for the next two to three days.

IndiGo has additionally sought temporary exemption from the newly implemented norms on reduced night flying hours until February 10, 2026. The DGCA will evaluate this request, and the airline has been asked to submit a detailed roadmap covering:

  • Projected crew recruitment

  • Aircraft induction timelines

  • Crew training requirements

  • Revised roster planning

On Thursday, IndiGo also stated that flight operations are expected to be fully stabilised only by February 10, 2026.

The disruption has affected thousands of passengers nationwide, with today’s Mumbai-wide operational shutdown marking the most severe single-city cancellation yet.
