A recent case at Indira IVF Pune has brought renewed attention to the importance of male fertility evaluation, an area often overlooked despite contributing to nearly half of all infertility cases in India, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
The couple, a 36-year-old husband and a 34-year-old wife from Pune, had been trying to conceive for four years. While the wife had undergone a complete fertility assessment, the husband had never been evaluated. Diagnostic tests conducted at Indira IVF revealed male-specific reproductive concerns, including Klinefelter syndrome (47, XXY), elevated FSH levels and low testosterone.
“Male fertility is often overlooked because evaluations traditionally begin with women,” said Dr Amol Subhash Lunkad, IVF Specialist at Indira IVF Pune. “Many men avoid testing due to social stigma, leaving underlying reproductive issues undiagnosed for years. Timely evaluation allows us to design targeted treatment plans and gives couples a better chance at a healthy pregnancy.”
The treatment involved micro-TESE surgical sperm extraction, ICSI-IVF with laser-assisted hatching, PGT-A embryo screening, sperm preservation and frozen embryo transfer. The couple successfully conceived and later welcomed a healthy baby free from genetic abnormalities.
Indira IVF said the case underscores the need for early, stigma-free male fertility checks and a more balanced approach to infertility. Established as a leading IVF provider, Indira IVF uses advanced technologies including closed working chambers, Electronic Witness Technology and EMRs across its nationwide network.
