Tensions flared briefly on Day 1 of the Ashes 1st Test after England captain Ben Stokes was seen in an animated exchange with the on-field umpires following a failed review against Marnus Labuschagne.

The incident took place when Brydon Carse beat Labuschagne with a short-of-length delivery angled in around the fourth-stump channel. England appealed loudly for a caught behind, convinced there was an edge.

Umpire Nitin Menon turned the appeal down, and England went upstairs.
However, the third umpire ruled “no significant spike” on RTS (Real-Time Snicko), upholding the on-field call of not out.

Some English fans in the crowd expressed displeasure, and Stokes was seen speaking to Menon after the decision. TV visuals showed the England captain gesturing that a light spike was visible on RTS, questioning why it wasn’t considered sufficient evidence.

The decision stood, England lost their review, and Labuschagne survived.

The match continued amid visible frustration from the England camp, with Stokes still appearing unhappy as he returned to his fielding position.
