Australia star batter Steve Smith endured a painful passage of play shortly after tea on Day 1, copping multiple blows in quick succession from England pacer Jofra Archer during a fiery spell at Perth.

Archer first struck Smith on the right glove, a 139.7kph short-of-length delivery seaming into the index finger. Smith immediately shook his hand in discomfort as the ball rolled toward square-leg, prompting the physio to run in for treatment. After a brief check and some medical attention, Smith resumed his innings.

Just one over later, Archer hit him again, this time on the forearm and grazing the elbow. The 137.8kph delivery climbed awkwardly, squared Smith up, and made a glancing impact as he attempted to defend.

These were Smith’s third set of blows today, having already taken one earlier in the morning session.

Despite the repeated hits, Smith has continued batting, showing no immediate signs of serious injury—though the Australian dressing room will be watching closely given the frequency and force of the impacts.

More updates to follow as the Test progresses.
