Play in the Bangladesh vs Ireland 2nd Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, was temporarily halted on Wednesday morning after earthquake tremors were felt across parts of Bangladesh, including the capital city.

The incident occurred during Ireland’s first innings, with the visitors at 184/7 in 61.3 overs, trailing Bangladesh by 292 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was in the middle of his over when the ground staff, officials, and players sensed the tremors.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Narsingdi, Bangladesh, at 10:08 AM (UTC+05:30) at a depth of 10 km. The tremors were widely felt in Dhaka and nearby regions.

Match officials immediately paused the game as a precaution. Players from both sides stepped away from the playing area while the umpires assessed the situation. No damage or injuries were reported at the venue.

The match later resumed after safety clearance, but the brief interruption added an unexpected twist to the morning session.

Further updates are awaited from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
