France appear set for a major change in leadership as Didier Deschamps prepares to step down from his role as national team head coach following the upcoming World Cup. According to fresh reports, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has emerged as the leading candidate to begin a new chapter with Les Bleus once the tournament concludes.

The French Football Federation is reportedly determined to maintain full focus on the World Cup and will not finalise any appointment before July. However, internal planning strongly suggests that Zidane is at the top of their list to replace Deschamps, who has been in charge since 2012 and guided France to a World Cup triumph in 2018 and a UEFA Nations League title in 2021.

Zidane, who has been without a club since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, has long expressed his desire to manage the French national team. Despite receiving interest from several top European clubs and even national teams, the former midfielder has chosen to wait patiently for the France job. Reports indicate he has turned down proposals in recent months, signalling his commitment to leading Les Bleus when the opportunity arises.
