Team India is all set to take on South Africa in the first Test of the multi-format series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, from November 14. With the contest underway, all eyes were on KL Rahul, who entered the match needing just 15 runs to complete a major Test milestone.

Rahul, expected to play a key role for India in this series, began Day 2 on the brink of history. The 33-year-old had accumulated 3,985 Test runs from 65 matches and required only 15 more to reach the 4,000-run landmark. He has now become the 18th Indian batter to cross 4000 Test runs.

The moment arrived in the first session of Day 2.
Marco Jansen to KL Rahul — FOUR.
A 134.1 kph good-length delivery just outside off, Rahul pushed with soft hands, caught the outside edge, and the ball rolled between slips and gully before trickling away to third man.

With that boundary, Rahul moved to 4002 Test runs.

India entered the series in strong form after their recent T20I win over Australia. Their last Test assignment came in October against West Indies, where Shubman Gill’s men secured comfortable victories. However, South Africa—defending World Test Championship winners—are expected to be a tough challenge.
