FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has officially revealed that the club is preparing to honour Lionel Messi with a statue at the newly redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou. The announcement marks one of the clearest indications yet of Barça’s commitment to immortalising their greatest-ever player.
Speaking to the media, Laporta confirmed that early discussions are already underway. “We’re planning to build Leo Messi’s statue at the new stadium,” he said, adding that work would begin on the design stage soon. “We want Messi to have a statue outside Spotify Camp Nou as soon as possible, we will make a design for it.”
The gesture comes as part of Barcelona’s broader project to celebrate its legends following the club’s return to the iconic venue next season. While numerous tributes exist inside the museum, Messi’s statue, once completed, will become a permanent public landmark, symbolising his unmatched contribution during his two decades in Catalonia.
Laporta emphasised that the tribute will only move forward with full approval from Messi and his family. “Messi deserves a statue and we will work on that, as Lionel and his family should also agree to this,” he said, highlighting the respect and personal connection the club still maintains with the Argentine superstar.
