Rohit Sharma has not informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about his availability for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025–26, despite earlier reports claiming he had agreed to participate. A senior MCA official told PTI that the association has received “no communication as far as I am aware.”
The uncertainty comes at a time when the BCCI has made participation in domestic competitions mandatory for players who wish to continue representing India in limited-overs cricket. Rohit and Virat Kohli, both of whom retired from Tests and T20Is earlier this year, were directed to feature in domestic 50-over cricket if they intend to extend their ODI careers.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from December 25 to January 18 across Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur and Bengaluru. While reports earlier suggested Rohit had conveyed his willingness to play for Mumbai, no confirmation has reached MCA yet. Kohli’s participation for Delhi also remains unclear.
Both senior players are not part of the India A squad beginning a three-match series against South Africa A today, but they will return for India’s ODI series against the Proteas starting November 30.
Rohit enters the domestic window in excellent form after scoring 73 and an unbeaten 121 in the ODI series against Australia, performances that earned him the Player of the Series award. The 38-year-old also continues to lead the ICC ODI batting rankings with 781 points, ahead of Babar Azam and Shubman Gill.
