A fresh dispute has erupted between the Spanish national team and FC Barcelona after teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was withdrawn from Spain’s squad following a medical recommendation from his club.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that Yamal underwent a radiofrequency treatment for pubic discomfort on the same day Spain’s training camp began, reportedly without prior notice to the national team staff. “Lamine underwent a radiofrequency treatment for pubic discomfort on the same day Spain’s training camp began, without any prior notice to our staff,” read the Federation’s official statement.
According to reports, the Spanish staff were only informed later that night through a medical report recommending seven to ten days of rest. Consequently, the RFEF decided to release the 17-year-old winger from national duties, citing his health as the top priority.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente expressed his frustration over the lack of communication from Barcelona, saying, “I am shocked. We did not receive any notice from Barça until today.”
Barcelona, meanwhile, have asked Yamal to return to Catalonia, where he will undergo a two-week recovery program to improve his condition before resuming club duties.
