JSW Energy Limited has achieved a landmark milestone in India’s clean energy journey by commissioning the country’s largest green hydrogen manufacturing plant. Located strategically next to the JSW Steel facility at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, this state-of-the-art project marks a new chapter in India’s sustainable industrial transformation under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme – Tranche I.

The newly commissioned plant will directly supply green hydrogen to JSW Steel’s Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) unit, enabling low-carbon steel production — a first-of-its-kind integration in the Indian steel industry. This advancement strengthens India’s commitment to achieving its ambitious decarbonization targets and building a robust green hydrogen ecosystem.

Under a seven-year offtake agreement with JSW Steel Ltd, the facility will deliver 3,800 tons per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen and 30,000 TPA of green oxygen. This supply is part of JSW Energy’s 6,800 TPA allocation under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program managed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Further expanding its green energy vision, JSW Energy has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSW Steel Ltd to progressively scale up the supply to 85,000–90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen by 2030.

This large-scale initiative perfectly aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets around 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green hydrogen production by 2030. It also reinforces JSW Energy’s position as one of the front-runners in India’s clean energy transformation, contributing significantly to reducing industrial carbon emissions and promoting sustainable growth.
