The football world is in shock following confirmation that Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland died by suicide, according to a statement released Thursday by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Kneeland, who was just 24 years old, reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a brief police pursuit in Texas.
Texas Authorities Confirm Suicide
The Texas Department of Public Safety said in an official statement that troopers had attempted to stop a vehicle on the northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Boulevard late Wednesday night.
According to DPS:
“The troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on the northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Blvd. The driver refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit with DPS Troopers.”
During the pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop, and when troopers approached, they discovered the driver — later identified as Marshawn Kneeland — had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Texas DPS confirmed that no other individuals were injured and that the incident remains under investigation.
