‘Well done, Team India!’: Virat Kohli applauds Women’s team’s record-breaking chase against Australia

India scripted history by defeating Australia in a high-octane semifinal to storm into the Women’s ODI World Cup final for the third time, after 2005 and 2017. Chasing a daunting 350-plus total, India pulled off a record-breaking 341/5, registering the first-ever 300-plus chase in an ODI World Cup knockout — men’s or women’s.

Jemimah Rodrigues emerged as the standout performer, anchoring the innings alongside captain Harmanpreet Kaur in a 167-run partnership for the third wicket, steadying the chase after early wickets. The finishing touches came from Richa Ghosh and Amanjot Kaur, sealing one of India’s most iconic victories in women’s cricket history.

The triumph also ended Australia’s 15-match unbeaten streak in World Cup games, their longest winning run in tournament history. Interestingly, Australia’s last World Cup defeat also came against India — in the 2017 semifinal in Derby.

The emotional scenes after the win captured the magnitude of the moment — with Jemimah and Amanjot embracing, teammates rushing onto the field, and Indian fans celebrating what has already been called one of the greatest nights in Indian women’s cricket.

With this win, India have now qualified for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 final, aiming to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
