Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer’s night might be over after he walked off the field in visible pain during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The star batter injured his left hip while taking a sensational catch to dismiss Alex Carey, and his return to the game looks highly unlikely.

The incident occurred in the 27th over when Harshit Rana bowled a short-of-length delivery that Carey mistimed. Iyer, sprinting back from backward point, pulled off a stunning over-the-shoulder catch — but landed awkwardly, clutching his hip in severe discomfort. The physio immediately rushed to his aid as the Indian dugout looked visibly concerned.

After being assessed briefly, Iyer was seen limping off the field, grimacing in pain, and holding his lower back and hip area. According to early signs, the injury appeared serious enough to rule him out of batting later in the game, especially considering the level of discomfort he was in while walking off.

With India already struggling in the series, this could be another major blow to their plans. The team management has confirmed that Iyer will not take the field again for now, and the BCCI medical staff is closely monitoring his condition.

As things stand, it appears almost impossible for Shreyas Iyer to return to bat tonight, given the extent of his pain and limited mobility after the incident. Fans will be hoping the injury isn’t long-term, with India’s next international assignments just around the corner.

If confirmed, this would mark another frustrating injury setback for the stylish right-hander, who has only recently returned to full fitness after a long battle with a back injury earlier this year.
