Rain interrupted play during India’s innings in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 group match against New Zealand at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, just as the hosts looked set for a massive total.

At the time of interruption, India were cruising at 329/2 in 48 overs, with Jemimah Rodrigues unbeaten on 69 off 51 balls and Harmanpreet Kaur on 10 off 10 balls. Earlier, Pratika Rawal continued her dream tournament with a brilliant 122 off 134 balls, while Smriti Mandhana’s 100 off 88 balls provided the perfect platform at the top.

Rain first interrupted play around 6:20 PM local time, forcing umpires to call for covers after a steady drizzle. Despite multiple inspections and brief dry spells, intermittent rain and lightning delayed proceedings.

At 7:04 PM, match officials announced that play would resume at 7:50 PM local time, with the contest reduced to 49 overs per side and the innings break shortened to 10 minutes. However, another spell of rain at 7:08 PM delayed the restart once again.

By 7:23 PM, the supersoppers were back in action as the covers came off, with India coach Amol Muzumdar inspecting the pitch. The record crowd of over 23,000 at the venue waited patiently, hoping for the weather to clear.

With India’s innings powered by strong top-order performances, the team remains in a commanding position — provided play resumes and conditions allow for a full contest.

If no further overs are lost, India will look to cross the 350-mark and put pressure on New Zealand in what has already been one of the highest-scoring matches of the tournament.
