The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved multiple capital acquisition proposals worth approximately Rs 79,000 crore to strengthen India’s Armed Forces.

During the meeting held at South Block, New Delhi, the DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for several critical procurements across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, marking another step toward enhancing indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Indian Army

The Army received clearance for the procurement of the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), and High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) equipped with Material Handling Cranes.

  • The NAMIS will strengthen the Army’s ability to neutralize enemy tanks, bunkers, and fortifications.
  • The GBMES will boost electronic intelligence capabilities for round-the-clock monitoring of enemy emitters.
  • The HMVs will significantly improve logistics operations across varied terrains.

Indian Navy

For the Navy, approvals were given for the procurement of Landing Platform Docks (LPD), 30mm Naval Surface Guns (NSG), Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWT), Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track Systems, and Smart Ammunition for 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mounts.
These acquisitions will enhance the Navy’s amphibious warfare capability, enable peacekeeping and humanitarian missions, and strengthen anti-submarine warfare operations. The ALWT, developed by DRDO’s Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, can target both conventional and nuclear submarines.

Indian Air Force

The Air Force’s approval includes the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS) — an autonomous platform capable of take-off, landing, navigation, target detection, and payload delivery within the mission area.

This major acquisition round underscores the government’s continued focus on indigenization and technological modernization of India’s defence forces, ensuring preparedness across all domains — land, sea, and air.
