Persistent rain in Perth has forced the first ODI between India and Australia to be reduced to 26 overs per side. After several stoppages throughout the afternoon, the umpires and match officials confirmed the revised format following a lengthy delay due to a wet outfield.

At the time of interruption, India were 52/4 in 16.4 overs, struggling to find rhythm against Australia’s pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Ellis. KL Rahul (3)* and Axar Patel (14)* were at the crease, trying to rebuild after early blows from the top order.

The rain first arrived just after the 10th over and returned multiple times, causing long breaks in play. By 16:15 local time (1:45 PM IST), the drizzle had finally relented, allowing ground staff to remove the covers. After inspection, officials decided the match would resume at 2 PM IST (4:30 PM local time) under a 26-over-per-side format.

Fans at the Optus Stadium will now witness a shortened contest, where both sides will aim to make the most of limited overs. The cut in overs ensures a result can still be achieved, provided weather conditions hold steady for the remainder of the evening.
