Team India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has made it clear that he is willing to take up any role to retain his spot in the national T20I side. Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2025, where he was named T20I Batter of the Year, Samson said he wouldn’t hesitate to bat at No. 9 or even bowl left-arm spin if the team required it.

“Even if you want me to bat at No. 9, maybe bowl some left-arm spin, whatever job for the country, I don’t mind,” said Samson, highlighting his determination to remain part of India’s plans.

The Kerala batter’s comments come after his demotion in the batting order during the Asia Cup 2025, where he was moved down to accommodate Shubman Gill at the top. Despite the change, Samson made crucial contributions, including a 39-run knock against Sri Lanka in the Super Fours and a vital 24 in the final against Pakistan.

Samson also reflected on his journey, noting the challenges of his inconsistent run with Team India. “I recently completed 10 years of international cricket, but I’ve played only 40 games in those 10 years… I’m proud of how I’ve handled everything and started focusing more on the internal noise rather than the outside one,” he said.

The 30-year-old’s candid remarks underline his desperation and hunger to stay relevant in India’s competitive T20I setup as the team prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
