In a major step towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centum Electronics Limited, a Bengaluru-based leader in designing and manufacturing high-reliability systems for defence, aerospace, space, industrial, and healthcare sectors.
The MoU, signed at GRSE Bhavan, Kolkata, aims to establish a collaborative framework for research and development (R&D) of advanced naval navigation systems for the Indian Navy. Key representatives present at the signing included Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director of GRSE, and Shri Apparao V Mallavarapu, Chairman & Managing Director of Centum Electronics, along with senior officials from both organizations.
Under this collaboration, GRSE and Centum Electronics will focus on leveraging manufacturing infrastructure for components and sub-assemblies of naval navigation systems, including onboard installation, integration, trials, and modernization of existing systems. This partnership is expected to enhance India’s self-reliance in defence technology while supporting the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding) at GRSE, stated that the partnership will enable cutting-edge technological innovation in high-technology naval systems, further solidifying GRSE’s position as a leader in indigenous defence manufacturing.
